In theory, you could spread the terrain over two KT boards, though it might be a little on the light side.

We only increased the board size by 11 inches to make a 30x33 play area (we put two boards together at the long edge and sectioned off half of one board). Even then, it was still pretty much a four way shooting gallery with the occasional melee. If you're just playing standard matches (1v1) then 22x30 is as big as you should have it.

Possible new player with a table size question : r/killteam. I play necromunda. We play on a 4'x4' table with a lot of multiple level terrain. I was told Kill Team is played on a roughly 24"x30" mats. The death forest killzone is one level. Is there a reason the board area is so small?

24x24 isn't bad; but honestly, I rather like the standard size. It also helps I own 3 of the killzones. Throwing down one of the boards and some terrain makes for easy setup. I love 22x30 but when we play 150pts we've started playing 26x30 just because of the extra models on the board, I'm considering 30x36 for 200pts.

Kill Team is intended to be played on a 22.4'x30' (57x76cm) board. For beginners a 2'x2' should be fine. Maybe use a little less terrain to give shooty teams a chance against melee ones, who will be stronger on smaller maps, but for a beginner you can probably just play as is whilst learning. I'd stick to the game as is 2x3 and use like 2 space.
